Wessex Deanery manages the training programmes for some 2,500
trainees across all training grades.
Wessex has an excellent reputation for training in a mix of
teaching, acute, mental health and primary care trusts working.
Twinned with Oxford Deanery, Wessex works closely with Trusts and
lead educators to ensure that the quality of the training
programmes is continually developed to meet the needs of the
curricula. There is the opportunity throughout training to develop
both clinical and generic professional skills.

Wessex covers the geographical areas of Hampshire and the Isle
of Wight for NHS South Central Strategic Health Authority and
Dorset and South Wiltshire for NHS South West Strategic Health
Authority.
Population figures are approximately:
Hampshire – 1.7 million
Isle of Wight – 129,000 rising to 260,000 in summer
Dorset – 702,000
South Wiltshire - 120,000
