NHS Medical Education England
NHS Medical Education
England(MEE) is an advisory body formed in
February 2009.
MEE has been set up in response to both
recommendations from the Tooke review
(the MMC Inquiry that reported in 2008), and according to criteria
set out by Lord Darzi in the NHS Next Stage review: A High Quality
Workforce.
MEE operates at arm's length from Ministers
and provides independent expert advice on workforce planning,
training and education for doctors, dentists, health care
scientists and pharmacists. The concept is supported by
professionals and has been developed as a result of extensive
consultation with stakeholders.
The role of MEE is to work with the
professions and wider stakeholders to provide advice on
developments such as the evaluation of the two-year medical
Foundation Programme as part of wider work to consider the
postgraduate education and training pathway.
