New Chief Operating Officer for MMC Programme
I am delighted that Graham Smith has been
appointed to the post of Chief Operating Officer for the MMC
Programme at the Department of Health.
Graham has a track record of senior NHS
management expertise going back three decades. Among other roles,
he has been a Chief Executive in acute and community NHS Trusts, a
Regional Director of Performance, and a Director of Human
Resources.
Graham’s skills will be an ideal complement to
others in the MMC Team. His expertise will mean we can continue to
build on the team’s work in designing the best possible processes
for doctors’ specialty training.
Graham will take over as Chief Operating
Officer from Terry Hanafin, who left at the end of 2007. I would
like to thank Terry for his dedication and skill in leading the MMC
programme, often in complex and demanding circumstances.
Graham will formally join the MMC Team on
12th February 2008. I look forward to working with him
as we work through selection and recruitment for 2008, plan for
2009 and beyond, and consider the wider implications of the Tooke
Report, and of the Next Stage Review.
