New appointments to the England MMC Programme team

I am delighted to welcome the following new people to the England MMC team:

Professor Bill Burr, Associate Medical Education Director

Bill is advising on the role of medical educators and leading the liaison between the MMC programme and the Department of Health’s Next Stage Review being led by Lord Darzi.  This appointment is for the interim until the appointment of a Medical Education Director.

Bill is a graduate of the University of Birmingham and has a background as Consultant Physician in Diabetes & Endocrinology and General Medicine at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield.  He joined the Yorkshire Deanery in 1996 as Medical Workforce Advisor, moving on to become Postgraduate Dean in 2001.

Dr. Alison Carr, Dean Adviser

Alison is working as Dean Adviser alongside our existing Clinical Adviser, Dr Mary Armitage.

Alison graduated in Medicine from Barts in London in 1985. She trained in Anaesthesia and became a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Paediatrics in Plymouth in 1997. Alison was College Tutor and Education Director for the South West School of Anaesthesia. After working in the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry as Director of Phase 2/Year 5 Curriculum from 2002, she became Deputy Postgraduate Dean of the South West Peninsula Deanery in 2005.  Alison continues to work as a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

Marcia Reid and Tracey Lakinson, seconded Business Managers

Marcia and Tracey join the team on 12-month job-share secondments.  They will support Steve Buggle, our lead for implementation of the 2008 recruitment programme, and Liz Bowsher on proposals for 2009 recruitment and beyond.

Marcia has been in business management with the East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery for the last eight years.  Tracey has worked as business manager for the North Western Deanery since 2003.  Both Marcia and Tracey have backgrounds working in NHS hospitals.

The new people bring extremely valuable expertise and added benefits in terms of their experience and connections to the medical profession and the operational network in postgraduate education.
