New appointments to the England MMC Programme team
I am delighted to welcome the following new
people to the England MMC team:
Professor Bill Burr, Associate
Medical Education Director
Bill is advising on the role of medical
educators and leading the liaison between the MMC programme and the
Department of Health’s Next Stage Review being led by Lord
Darzi. This appointment is for the interim until the
appointment of a Medical Education Director.
Bill is a graduate of the University of
Birmingham and has a background as Consultant Physician in Diabetes
& Endocrinology and General Medicine at Pinderfields Hospital,
Wakefield. He joined the Yorkshire Deanery in 1996 as Medical
Workforce Advisor, moving on to become Postgraduate Dean in
2001.
Dr. Alison Carr, Dean
Adviser
Alison is working as Dean Adviser alongside
our existing Clinical Adviser, Dr Mary Armitage.
Alison graduated in Medicine from Barts in
London in 1985. She trained in Anaesthesia and became a Consultant
Anaesthetist with an interest in Paediatrics in Plymouth in 1997.
Alison was College Tutor and Education Director for the South West
School of Anaesthesia. After working in the Peninsula College of
Medicine and Dentistry as Director of Phase 2/Year 5 Curriculum
from 2002, she became Deputy Postgraduate Dean of the South West
Peninsula Deanery in 2005. Alison continues to work as a
Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at Derriford Hospital,
Plymouth.
Marcia Reid and Tracey Lakinson,
seconded Business Managers
Marcia and Tracey join the team on 12-month
job-share secondments. They will support Steve Buggle, our
lead for implementation of the 2008 recruitment programme, and Liz
Bowsher on proposals for 2009 recruitment and beyond.
Marcia has been in business management with
the East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery for the last eight
years. Tracey has worked as business manager for the North
Western Deanery since 2003. Both Marcia and Tracey have
backgrounds working in NHS hospitals.
The new people bring extremely valuable
expertise and added benefits in terms of their experience and
connections to the medical profession and the operational network
in postgraduate education.
