The first and main recruitment process for specialty training
programmes in 2008 ends today (16 May 2008).
In the next phase of recruitment, from 17 May to 31 December
2008, deaneries will continue to advertise training
vacancies. Some posts remain unfilled from the first
recruitment process. In addition, some new ST3/ST4 posts, as
well as posts that have become vacant as a result of doctors
gaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or due
to trainees leaving training for various reasons, will be
available.
For applicants in 2008, this means that there will be more
opportunities to apply for specialty training this year, although
it is unlikely that this will be in time for the August start
date. We estimate that up to 1,500 vacancies will be coming
up between now and 31 December, as a result of the outstanding
vacancies from the first recruitment process and the emerging
vacancies in ST3/4.
You can still apply for vacancies arising between now and
December, even if you have already accepted a post this year. If
you have an existing post or offer, you will need to give the
required period of notice before you can take up the new post.
