2008 Gold Guide Published

The 2008 edition of A Reference Guide for Postgraduate
Specialty Training
in the UK (the "Gold Guide") and its Core Training Supplement
are now
available from the Related Documents links of most pages on the MMC
website. See also the link below to download the Guide and
the Supplement.
These documents set out the arrangements for specialty
training and are applicable to trainees taking up appointments
which
commence on or after 6 August 2008.
Trainees taking up appointments in specialty training between 1
August 2007
and 5 August 2008 will continue to be covered by the 2007 edition,
also
available in the Related Documents links and from the link
below.
A new edition was required to cover the introduction of core
training
programmes in specialties that "uncoupled" in England, Northern
Ireland and
Wales with effect from 6 August 2008. The 2007 edition will be
checked to
ensure that any changes to the Guide for 2008 do not adversely
impact on
trainees taking up appointments between 1 August 2007 and 5 August
2008.
In the preparation of this edition, comments were received from a
wide
range of stakeholders and there remain some sections of the Guide
where
further discussions are required to finalise future arrangements.
It has
therefore been agreed this will be taken forward as part of a
comprehensive
review of the Guide in time for publication of the 2009
edition.
