Update on UK Offers System
About the
UKOffers
System
The Medical Education and Training Programme
team at the Department of Health have been working with the Royal
Colleges, NHS Employers, the Devolved Administrations, NHS
Education for Scotland (NES), deaneries, the BMA JDC and individual
trainee doctors to develop and implement the UK Offers
System. The UK Offers system allows applicants to
receive all their training offers electronically. The offers
process can co-ordinate all first offers so that applicants can
accept, reject or hold an offer.
The website that will issue offers to
applicants is called UK Offers System for Medical Specialty
Training. This system is managed by NHS Education for
Scotland (NES) which has successfully operated co-ordinated offers
process in Scotland for the last three years.
Implementing the UK Offers System is a complex
process and will be completed in two stages to ensure it is
successful. Stage one will involve partial implementation and
testing in 2012. Stage two will see full implementation in
2013. Colleges and specialties that are not implementing the
UK Offers System in 2012 will test the system using live data from
2012 applications. This testing will ensure the system is
working correctly and ready for full implementation in
2013.
UK Offers System
2012
As in previous years applications are to be
made to College or Deanery recruitment systems and offers made by
each recruitment team. However, this year three of our national
co-ordinated specialties will be using the UK Offers System for
making offers. Those applying to the following specialties
will benefit from using the UK Offers System.

Registering with the
UKOffers Website
Applicants applying to any of the above
specialties will be registered with the UK Offers website.
The UK Offers System website will then automatically email
applicants asking them to login, verify their details and check
their contact details. Applicants will need to do this within
14 days of receiving the email.
Upgrades
If applicants apply though the UK Offers
System they will be able to upgrade their offer. This means
if you hold or accept an offer that is a lower preference (from
your original choices) than your first choice, you will have the
option to either hold the post you have been allocated or accept
the offer with upgrades. If you choose to accept with
upgrades, you may still receive a better offer (a higher
preference) from the same specialty if one becomes
available.
The upgrade option is applicable to
specialties using the UK Offers System and to Core Surgery and ACF
ST1 General Surgery (England) who offer upgrades through Pathway
within the same timelines stipulated above. For all other
specialties you will need to check with the recruitment team
within each Deanery or College to find out whether upgrades
are available in the specialty that you are applying
to.
