First Steps
Choose your specialty
See the section on person specifications for
complete list of specialty training posts available in 2010.
Royal College websites provide information about the specialty and
what’s involved. You can also visit http://www.medicalcareers.nhs.uk/
to explore career options.
Check the application
process
See the section on nationally coordinated
specialties for links to further information from the national
recruiting offices. See the section on Colleges and deaneries
for full details.
Plan your time
See the section on when to apply for key dates
and timeline
Review person
specifications
The person specifications will guide you in
preparing your portfolio of evidence of your achievements and
competences, ready to show at interview.
Register for online
applications
Many specialties use an online application
process that requires you to register first. It’s best to do this
early to avoid any technical difficulties when it comes to
submitting your application.
If you are interested in applying for those
specialties that are recruiting by means of a national process, you
will be able to apply for your preferred posts in a single
application.
