Stage 1

Eligibility

 

You must meet eligibility criteria by the application closing date of the programme/post for which you are applying, including exam passes, if required.

 

Stage 2

Choosing your specialty

 

Check college and deanery websites for training programmes and application processes. On this website, you will find other useful information, person specifications for each specialty and indicative competition information.

 
    

Stage 3

Vacancies and Applications

Search college and deanery websites, GP recruitment or NHS Jobs for vacancies. Vacancies will be advertised for a limited period (min two calendar weeks). Apply by each individual closing date, showing how you meet the criteria set by the person specification. You will be short-listed for interview and/or assessment against the criteria in the person specification. You may be given a limited time to confirm whether you will be attending the interview or assessment centre. This will be made clear in the application details.

 

Applicant support

Doctors in training can seek careers advice from tutors and others in their local deanery. Staff grade doctors can seek support from their consultants or others in medical staffing.

    

Stage 4

Interviews and Offers

Prepare to take with you the required documents, you could risk being refused an interview and/or assessment opportunity.  In Round 1 all UK job offers in GP and specialty training will be issued UK wide by 11 March 2011.  You will have 48 hours (not including weekends and bank holidays) to decide whether to accept, hold or reject the offer.  You can hold and offer while waiting for other offers up until 25 March 2011.
