About the different rounds of
recruitment to specialty training
The first and main recruitment round for specialty training
programmes in 2012 starts on 25th November 2011 for CT1/ST1
programmes and other training levels in some specialties that
are using a nationally coordinated recruitment process.
A second round of recruitment will run from 3 February,
including all posts that remain unfilled from Round 1, together
with any posts being advertised for the first time at CT2/ST2, CT3
and ST3 levels.
If you have been unsuccesful in the first round of recruitment
to specialty training, the second round gives you another
opportunity to secure a training place with an August 2012 start
date, where possible.
Applicants who are still waiting for offers
following interviews in the first round of recruitment, shouldn’t
be alarmed to see the same specialties advertised in the second
round. No Round 2 offers will be made until the first round has
closed. Deaneries are advertising based on the knowledge that there
will still be opportunities available. This does not in any way
disadvantage your application in the first round of
recruitment.
Please note, if you have accepted a Round 1 post and
decide to apply again in Round 2, you will need to give the
required period of notice before you can take up the new post.
